The hotel adjoins a 1643 dwelling named ermelerhaus, which contains the hotel's trendy fine-dining eatery and gilded original salons. Colorful, trendy guestrooms include down comforters and pillows, wall-mounted desks, wireless internet access, and bathrooms with sinks by philippe starck. Ermelerhaus was built for a pioneering german sociable activist and later converted to a library/art gallery. When the east german regime proposed razing the dwelling to make way for commercial development, preservationists arranged for it to be moved 200 yards to its present site in a row of stylish 18th-century houses facing a channel of the spree river. The hotel offers 109 contemporary-decor guestrooms displaying works by trendy german artist georg baselitz in a seven-story building. As a backdrop for the art, all rooms have whitish walls, ceilings, muslin curtains, and drapes, but accent-color schemes vary, with bathroom vanities and carpeting obtainable in orange, greenish, bluish and aubergine (eggplant). Woven into carpets is a german version of a speech by aristotle.
